The Ardnamurchan Lighthouse was designed by Alan Stevenson who came from a family of lighthouse engineers responsible for building 97 lighthouses across Scotland between the years 1799 and 1939. It first became active in 1849 after 3 years of construction by Robert Hume and his team. The lighthouse is made of pink granite that was sourced from Camus Tuath on the south end of Mull. It is the most westerly point on the british mainland and for that reason it has become a popular destination for tourists and also for people doing sponsored walks, cycles and swims.
Eddie Sedgemore covered 1912.1 miles in 28 days in 2009 on an Electric bicycle which included Ardnamurchan point.
Charlie covered approximately 2000 miles by foot in 2011. He walked from Lizard in Cornwall to John o’Groats in Caithness stopping off at various places in between, Corrachadh Mor (a point just off Ardnamurchan Lighthouse) was one of his stops.
