About the property

Ardnamurchan yurt is situated on a stunning croft in the township of Portuairk. Set on a grassy sward next to a babbling brook and mixed woodland which is full of bluebells in May and cuckoos in the summer it is the perfect West Coast retreat. A two minute walk leads you down to the sea where you will find rocky inlets and small sandy coves, perfect for swimming and wildlife spotting. These lead eastwards towards the magnificent long sandy beach of Sanna. A hill path travels westwards up to the old coastguard’s lookout which has beautiful views out to the Western Isles and the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, this walk continues down to the secluded and sheltered Bay MacNeil – one of Ardnamurchan’s many hidden treasures.

Ardnamurchan Yurt is the perfect West Coast glamping experience. The yurt is a traditional Mongolian ger, hand built by highly skilled Mongolian craftsmen. It provides warm, dry and cosy accommodation for up to four people. It is decorated with traditional hand painted designs and has a beautifully embellished wooden door. The yurt has 4 layers of fabric insulation, this combined with the rustic wood burning stove ensures you will not be cold. The yurt does not have electricity but instead is lit with candles and LED fairy lights. The kitchen area is fully equipped and includes a 2 ring gas burner with grill and a large cool box.

Mains water (suitable for drinking) is available from an outdoor tap. There is a compost toilet with a basin for washing in 20 metres away. We are currently installing, into the toilet shed, a hot shower, this will be ready for 1st May 2014 (although hopefully much sooner!). There are hot showers available in Kilchoan at the community centre (5 miles from the yurt) and also at the public toilets beside the shop.

Ardnamurchan yurts are not open from November – March
