About the property

The Byre provides ideal for accommodation for couples visiting the wild and untamed countryside of Western Ardnamurchan. This perfectly located cottage is tastefully decorated, comfortable and cosy and is heated by a wood burning stove for cooler days. From the bedroom and living room window there are picturesque views of the sea and after a good walk, you can relax in a luxurious bath or sit out on the peaceful patio on romantic evenings. Conveniently situated in the quiet village of Kilchoan, all local amenities are within easy walking distance – it’s a two minute walk to a friendly pub (that also does good food), ten minutes to the shop, and approximately fifteen minutes to the ferry that has daily sailings to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.
The Byre, built in 1886 and converted in the early 1980s, is a semi-detached cottage in the heart of the village of Kilchoan. It has been creatively refurbished with a high quality finish that’s full of character. The homely, spacious living room with high ceilings is warmed by a Morso Squirrel woodburning stove, and has views out towards the sea. From the living area, a quirky cast-iron spiral staircase coils its way up to the cosy bedroom with king size bed and views over the Sound of Mull. Round the back of the cottage, there is a seating and patio area which allows you to enjoy the mature garden full of fruit trees and bushes.
The village of Kilchoan is a haven for hill-walkers and wildlife enthusiasts as well as those just wanting a quiet or romantic break away from the rest of the world.
Ground floor: kitchen with dining area, a comfortable living room with high ceiling and multi-fuel stove and large bathroom.
Upstairs: bedroom with a king size bed.
Outside: patio at the back, with BBQ and seating area.

Perfect location to get away for a while from the pressures we take for granted in the modern world – Byre cottage is comfortable and well set up with everything you need . John and Jacqui Chapple were very helpful and friendly and also respected our privacy. The ferry to mull is walking distance from the cottage as is the very useful local shop for newspapers and everything else you need. Had a bonus of seeing a fantastic show from the local dolphins alongside the ferry on our crossing to Tobermory, P.S. The Squirrel log burning stove was great and very comforting on cooler evenings

how many superlatives can one use ?
wonderful cottage for 2 , beautifully but cosily appointed, fantastic log burner used in evening although we didn’t really need it. superb sea view from both lounge and bedroom windows, lovely to lay in bed looking at the water.
And yes we were really lucky with the weather, but would not have minded being rained in by the fire reading.
John and Jacqui are natural hosts as well, just hope we can get back there sometime.

We have had a fabulous week here, walking for most of the day and returning to the peace and comfort of The Byre which feels more like a home than a holiday let! Thank you so much for the welcome – flowers on the table, a bottle of wine and the store alight.

The Byre has been all that we hoped it would be – a quirky, comfortable holiday home, an excellent place to relax in wonderful surroundings and a good base for exploring this beautiful part of the country. Loved the stove – and the garden!

“The Byre” is by far the best holiday cottage I’ve stayed in. The sunlight floods in from all directions and it’s even more homely than my own home. It’s very well decorated and equipped, and ideally located for quick access to the ferry, shop, post office and pub, but still gloriously peaceful. We were entertained in the evenings by a bat swooping round the garden. I’ll miss the place.
