Camus nan Gael

Camus nan Gael, Ardslignish. It is always worth taking a walk down the track to the shore at Camus nan Gael. It is lovely at the moment with all the Primroses, the gorse is in bloom and grass has just started to grow again after the winter months. It is part of Ardnamurchan Estates, and it is interesting to see how the land is worked and the fields and stock are rotated throughout the year. Recently as I was passing, I was smiling to see a hand full of very determined, Black faced sheep, grazing almost vertically on the steep banks below the barriers at the roadside! In mid summer, the fields will be cut for silage, you see the big bales stacked for winter feed. The average cow can drink 30 to 50 gallons of water each day, so with the fresh waters of Loch Sunart in the bay, is an ideal spot for them. Then there is the chambered cairn underneath the trees, The Bronze Age standing stone over by the shore and the gated graveyard of the Clan Campbells. An Papanach Mor is buried here. Alexander, he was one of the Campbells of Ardslignish and he fought proudly for the Jacobites at Culloden. His tombstone has a boars head, a galley with furled sails, and a dexter hand holding a lance. They were originally Campbells of Lochnell, some settled at...
